But first off, where to stay? If you are coming to Florence on the train and want to make it a hub for Tuscan day trips, it makes sense to stay near the train station; why lug all that stuff? Using the Map
Looking at the bottom left of the map is the layer control. Click it and it will allow you to see an overlay showing the hot spots of the city for tourism or restaurants or transportation routes. on the bottom right are the controls that allow you to zoom in or out. If you're looking for something in a particular price range for lodging, you can go to the top of the map and use the filter to find bargain lodging (set it to 30 max and the lodging markers will go away if they annoy you).
You can also use the top bar to find restaurants in the area, for example. Choosing "restaurants" or "experiences" does away with the lodging icons (wow, the sheer number of expensive hotels!). Have fun playing around.
