A Day in Parma

Parma, Piazza GaribaldiParma is a very interesting place. You should go in fall. Look at that picture, those skies! This is Parma’s landmark Piazza, with Garibaldi not astride his horse in front of the clock tower of the Governor’s Palace. (Click to see it all larger.)

But the real reason you should go to Parma in the Fall is the food. It’s rich. It fits the season when the air gets a bit of a nip to it.

We also went to Parma to get some cheese at the source. Not to mention I wanted to take Martha to eat at La Filoma, one of my Parma faves. Of course, via twitter I got a reply from @arttrav advising that I should go to Trattoria Sorelle Picchi to sample “the best tortelli in the world”, a restaurant which I had actually checked out after lunch. Yes, the plump filled pasta looked good in the window of the open kitchen.

But just at that moment Martha remembered that she wanted to get some sort of pastry for Francesca and Armando to put in the porcini bowl we needed to return (in Italy, you never return a vessel empty). So what happened when we got home and made the exchange? The bowl was immediately returned with roasted chestnuts.

Is fall a great season or what? I gotta go. I got chestnuts to crack.
