Lab Steaks and Petri Dish Pork

Interesting article on ANSA. Italians commenting “at the prospect of steak grown in a lab from animal stem cells.”

It seems PETA wants scientists to make meat from stem cells and is offering a sack of cash to the first person to successfully develop and sell ‘‘commercially viable quantities of in vitro meat’‘ by 2012. They declare, ‘‘in vitro meat production would use animal stem cells that would be placed in a medium to grow and reproduce. The result would mimic flesh and could be cooked and eaten’‘

Get that. The new “meat” would “mimic flesh.” Is this the same “mimic” as a frozen rubber ape suit mimics big foot?

Or is it mimic like KRAFT Zesty Italian Dressing mimics something an Italian would put on a salad without being held at gunpoint?

In either case, I don’t think I’m gonna be sticking a fork in a lab steak soon.
