Mario Batali Freed from the Junk Food Channel

So the “Food” Channel has dumped chef Mario Batali. I suppose this isn’t news, having appeared a couple days ago, but I can’t resist a comment.

The “F” channel wants new and floozier home cooking stars to enchant home viewers with more crap-on-a-stick variations on edible food. Bleh.

Why can’t folks be challenged to look at food in new and interesting ways, which can include more than taking salt, fat and flavor out of it and leaving it limp on the plate?

Am I the only one who doesn’t care how the industrialists got the nut inside the m&m?

Mario was one of the few people I know who really knew Italian food and could calmly explain its simplicity and goodness. He didn’t try to gussy it up or wow you with his technical skills with a knife.

It’s good that he’s out of the grips of a network devoted to spending most of its time promoting industrial crap food—but sad we won’t get to see him any time soon on television.
