According to ANSA news, the “perfect” gelato has been “discovered:”
“We’ve produced a perfect, nutritious and balanced mix in line with the Mediterranean diet,” Attilio Del Re of Piacenza’s Catholic University told the Italian press Monday.
Ok, so I read this and I’m thinking, “dang, they’ve found a way to put olive oil and red wine into a decent tasting ice cream.”
But no.
It’s the sign of our times, I suppose, that a person can diddle with a recipe and proclaim it perfect, with numbers like these:
The optimised ice cream – 30% fat, 15% protein and 55% sugar – is “healthy enough to be eaten every day, in place of a meal,” Del Re claimed.
In place of a meal? Say what!?
These numbers seem darn high. Wikipedia says “Gelato typically contains 7-8% fat, less than ice cream’s minimum of 10%.”
Something’s wrong here, but now I’m too hungry to care.
