Soave is a walled wine village of some 7000 people in the Veneto region of Italy, south of Bassano del Grappa and 20 km west of Verona. It is a stunning site visible from the A4 Autostrada as you pass, which draws many visitors who hadn't put Soave on their itineraries.
The suprised visitor will not be disapointed. There are enough eateries, like the popular Trattoria Alla Rocca on Corsi Vittorio Emanuele II 155 serving the local pasta, bigoli--or polenta with snails (another regional specialty) along with a chilled glass of Soave to keep you happy for a few days. Walks from the town to the countryside are marvelous.
The main attraction is the castle, located on the map below, which still has a drawbridge and moat--and is surounded by Soave wine country.
