The picture to the left is of a hefty .428 kilogram chunk of Parmigiano Reggiano DOC. You’ll pay $23 to $29 for a pound of it in the US. Here in the Lunigiana, the price is an amazing € 10.50 per kilo.
Let’s do the math. The Euro is currently pegged at $1.31. So our Parmigiano Reggiano comes in at $13.76 per kilo. A kilo is 2.2 pounds, so…
I paid only $6.26 a pound for my Parmigiano Reggiano DOC. It probably tastes better than your cheese because it hasn’t suffered the trauma of shipping or spending time in the back of a truck in some gawdawful frozen wasteland waiting to be unloaded.
And it’s not that industrial beige dust in a can, laced with salt.
And mmmm is it good.
Get some more info on Parmigiano Reggiano then come to Italy to save beaucoup bucks on great cheese.
